President, Japanese Association of Greater Philadelphia 1998-2009; 2010-Present - President Emeritus, JAGP; Present-Chair, JAGP Advisory Board; Board of Director (1998 – 2009), Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia (1998-2009); Director Philadelphia Opera Guild (1996 – 1999); Women’s Committee Member, Mann’s Performing Center (1998-1999): Recipient of Outstanding Community Leader, ABC TV Asian Advisory Board 2014; Outstanding Community Leader, Suffolk County New York.

Not only worked in the International consultancy field but also advisory for not-for-profits having managed a few 501( C) 3 organizations including community service organizations..

Christiaan Morssink, Ph.D., M.P.H., Director/Chair, Peace Committee

Executive Director, United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia, retired Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Center of Public Health Initiatives of the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Morssink studied cultural anthropology and non-Western sociology at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and obtained a MPH from Johns Hopkins, and a Ph.D. in Health Policy and Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health.  Besides a long career in Public Health related work, Christiaan has been involved in promoting global awareness through citizenship activism. As such he is a founding board member of the Global Water Alliance, as well as the Global Philadelphia Association, and has joined the boards of several organizations that are deeply involved in disarmament and peace building.

Doug Shimell, Director/PR & Media

Doug is an Emmy Award-winning television journalist, who has chased tornadoes, rooted out corruption and performed off- Broadway. He has appeared in commercials for AT&T, Activia and, ahem, Cologuard! He has appeared in films with Corbin Bernsen and produced long-running documentaries on Netflix. Doug hs been the strong anchor emceeing the Harmony For Peace Peace Concerts at the world stages at such venues as Carnegie Hall or Jazz at Lincoln Center and Kimmel Center.

During his 35 years in television news, Doug advocated for the voiceless and powerless. His coverage resulted in tougher laws and regulations governing truck drivers, puppy mills, illegal diet pills, and corrupt public officials.

Since retiring from NBC News Philadelphia, Doug has immersed himself in his passion for film and theater, appeared in "Singing in the Rain" as Dexter and Male Vocal Coach, “Annie, The Musical” as FDR, and Professor Porter in "Tarzan, The Musical."

A seasoned professional in advertising having worked with many Fortune 500 corporations.  Karen has a wealth of experience in marketing and advertising and has been a supporter of Harmony For Peace since its inception. Karen has been a long time committee member focusing the organization's promotions and PR efforts. She will continue to work with both the Board Members and Committee Members to help spread HFP's message of peace and friendship with emphasis on its vision and plans for future activities.
